Başak Tuğ has been a faculty member in the Department of History at Istanbul Bilgi University since 2009. Her research focuses on gender, law, and the transformation of honor in Ottoman and Republican history. She held research fellowships in Berlin through the EUME program (2013–2014) and at Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin with Gerda Henkel Stiftung (2018–2020). Since 2024, she has served on the board of the History Foundation (Tarih Vakfı). She is the author of Politics of Honor (Brill, 2017).
