The Joint History Project (JHP), in cooperation with the Association for Social History – EuroClio and with the support of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Serbia, has launched a new cycle of certified training programmes for secondary school history teachers.
The first workshop is being held in Sombor and brings together teachers from this part of Serbia. During the two-day programme, participants will have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with contemporary approaches to history education, the use of historical sources, and a multiperspectival approach to studying the past.
Throughout the training, educational materials and methodologies developed through the Joint History Project will be presented. The project is one of the longest-running regional educational initiatives dedicated to improving history teaching and strengthening critical thinking among young people.
The workshop in Sombor is the first in a series of planned training sessions that will be organized in Serbia and Montenegro over the coming period. The aim is to provide teachers with additional tools for modern and inclusive history teaching through a network of certified trainings, based on the use of historical sources, multiple perspectives, and active learning methods.
The training in Sombor is the first of several programmes scheduled to take place in Serbia and Montenegro in the near future. We also hope to implement these trainings in cooperation with ministries of education in other countries of Southeast Europe, an objective on which we are currently working intensively.
Through initiatives such as these, JHP and its partners continue to promote high-quality, contemporary history education grounded in evidence, multiple perspectives, and the development of critical thinking skills among young people.
