The second regional school, “The 1990s in post-Yugoslav region – New Sources and Methodologies,” was held from September 25 to 29, 2025, in Budva. It brought together 25 young people from Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Croatia, and Montenegro. The Joint History Textbooks Project was presented at the event in two parts: first, participants gained insight into contemporary methodologies in history teaching through a lecture by historian and project associate, Sanja Radović. Afterward, during a workshop, they had the opportunity to work directly with materials from the joint history textbooks, allowing them to become acquainted with the innovative teaching methodologies that form the foundation of this project.

In today’s challenging social context, which is heavily burdened by ideologically-driven perspectives, the importance of a critical approach to the information and data we encounter becomes clear. A multiperspective approach to studying history is the very cornerstone of the critical thinking that not only respects different views but also opens a space for dialogue and understanding – something that is chronically lacking in our societies,” stated Sanja Radović.

She emphasized that this innovative and much-needed approach is precisely what the Joint History Textbooks project cultivates. Through this project, she noted, teachers and students have the opportunity, for the first time, to become acquainted with the history of their neighbors from across the region.
